Intelligent Key programming and fob limits

Nissan's Intelligent Key proximity system is programmed through the OBD-II port and typically supports up to four registered keys per vehicle. Programming a new Intelligent Key generally does not require existing fobs to be present, but confirming how many are already registered helps avoid exceeding the vehicle's limit.

All-keys-lost and BCM considerations

When all Nissan keys are lost, the body control module has to be accessed to clear old key data and register a new key or Intelligent Key fob. Certain Nissan model years have known BCM communication quirks that can occasionally require a second programming attempt, which is planned for when scheduling an all-keys-lost appointment.

Ignition and steering column lock notes

Older Nissan Altima and Sentra models with traditional insert-and-turn ignitions can develop a stiff or worn tumbler over time that makes an otherwise correctly cut key hard to turn. Checking the ignition cylinder condition when cutting a new key avoids a comeback complaint about the new key not turning smoothly.
